5-year-Old Bread Winner, Shakur Miata, Back To School

About two months ago, news broke out about a five (5) year old boy who was picking plastics during school hours to support his family. The school-going-aged child, Shakur Miata, was picking up plastic to support his grandmother and two (2) siblings. Fortunately, Shakur is now back at school through the support of well-meaning citizens.

Shakur Miata is starting a new life at Namuwaya Education Center in Kira, Wakiso District. This new life is definitely a life-changing occasion for the young bread winner. The news broke out when a young boy from Pallisa was spotted picking plastics frequently.

The outpouring of support was not just for Miata alone but for her grandmother and siblings as well. The well-wishers provided significant support to the family of the boy and his family. However, the managers of Miata’s new school request the good Samaritans to sign a formal undertaking to support Miata through his education. The good Samaritan gladly accepted to sign the bond to look after Shakur Miata through his education.

Worth noting is also the fact that the concerned citizens also provided clothing for Miata and his family. The boy who enrolled in primary one gave emotional welfare to his family and people at locations that he used to pick up the plastic bottles.

Shakur Miata’s predicament can be considered as just one of the many other conditions of many families across the country. Miata’s family had no choice but to feel lucky about their situation being helped. They prayed for their son on his new journey in life.

Shakur Miata can be considered as someone who has taken on the task of adults, and he is expected to perform better, having been presented with an opportunity to school at a facility that is considered one of the best.

Shakur Miata’s predicament was first reported on 2nd January 2023 and the story was given wide publication by NTV.co.ug. In the end, the intent and purpose of the story paid out when philanthropists came to the rescue of the young man, Shakur Miata.

Everyone, including the family and friends of Shakur Miata, and the general public have only enough prayers of the generous philanthropists. Also, there could never be enough for a family in such a situation where their under-aged children have to support the household financially. The family, therefore, wished other capable people to look in their direction to help.

The development relating to Shakur Miata’s family calls into question the level of state support for the vulnerable in society. Also, this call into question national policy on school going age children that do not actually go to school.
