Jemimah Kakungulu Scored 8 In 8 In Exam| Child of Mentally Ill’s Experience
“I just pray to God to provide the way” was her self-motivating story. As a child of a mentally ill father and a maid mother, Jemimah Kakungulu defied the odds to excel in the recently released 2022 UCE results by the UNEB.
Jemimah’s father developed mental health problems while she was in school, and her mother had to become a house maid. Fortunately for Jemima, a good Samaritan came to help her to provide bursaries for her to complete her school.
To make matters worse for Jemimah, her brother developed diabetes. And any money made by her mother in her work as a maid would have to be spent on her diabetic brother. Jemimah’s continuous access depends on her performance at school. Through her determination and assistance from teachers of Rainbow High School in Budaka district, Jemimah continues to excel.
The aim of the young Ugandan girl is to become a medical doctor. In her own words, becoming a medical doctor is not to cure her brother but to help those in need. This statement must definitely be coming from someone who has gone through a lot and knows what it feels like to be in need both financially and emotionally due to conditions at home.
The Director of Rainbow High School, Amos Mangolo, disclosed that when Jemimah went home to discover her father was mad and her mother became a maid, they offered to give Jemimah a bursary. The director of Rainbow High School is appealing to anyone who can to help Jemimah to proceed in her academic journey.
Jemimah’s story is just a fraction of most students who face challenges in their lives and at home but go on to excel through determination.
The teachers must also be praised for the role they played in the life of the young girl. It might also be the wish of concerned citizens for all state institutions which can offer scholarships to the girl to come to her aid.
Our team is appealing to the Minister of Education and Sports, H.E Janet Museveni to give a special attention to the young Jemimah Kukungulu through her education after excelling the recent O’level UCE examination.
