GES transfer letter and the reposting letter are both the same. The term is equally applied to release letters. The staff must apply for the transfer letter or release or reposting.
We have therefore provided a sample of the application letter for the GES transfer letter release or reposting.
Though the district education director is mandated to approve and issue a GES transfer letter to a teacher within the district. Transfer within the district is called intra-district transfer or reposting.
The regional director, however, is mandated to approve and issue a GES transfer letter to inter-district transfer requests within the region. Inter-district reposting refers to a staff moving from one district to another in the same region.
However, the Director General (DG) must approve the inter-regional transfer request. That is when a teacher decides to move from one region to another.
Application for GES transfer letter
The teacher is required to apply for a transfer. The staff must apply to his or her existing district education directorate for release/ reposting/ transfer. The current district is responsible for processing the transfer of staff.
The existing district must add a cover letter to the teacher’s application for release. The cover letter from the current is an opportunity provided to the district to indicate approval of the teachers’ movement.
For teachers in secondary schools, the school must provide the first approval of the teachers’ movement. The school head must provide a cover letter to indicate the approval. The transfer process will face a challenge if the school head refused to provide the approval.
The district education directorate then forwards the application with the cover letters to the regional education directorate. However, all transfer movements from one school to another in the same district remain at the district education directorate. The district director of education approves all such intra-district transfer letter
Decline of transfer
The district office has the prerogative to decline any request for a transfer. There are several reasons a transfer request can be declined. Some of such reasons are
1. The teacher did not spend the minimum number of years at the district
2. The teacher’s reasons given for his or her request is considered not valid enough
3. The district will be unable to replace the vacancy that the transfer will create.
First step securing in securing the transfer letter easily
First and foremost, the teacher seeking transfer must obtain an assurance letter from whichever district he or she wishes to go to. The assurance letter is a letter that assures of vacancy in that district for the teacher seeking the transfer.
A teacher seeking transfer cannot succeed if he or she has no assurance letter from any district. Logically, a district education directorate cannot release a teacher to go anywhere.

What next after obtaining the assurance letter
After obtaining an assurance letter, the teacher must apply for a GES transfer letter or reposting or release from his or her existing district.
The application for release or reposting is done to the director general through the regional director, through the district director. Staff in Senior High Schools (SHS) must apply through their heads of institution.

Sabotage from officers
Anyone can be sabotaged easily. This is because there are reports teachers have been sabotaged at any level for whatever reason.
For instance, some supervisors consider the transfer window to truncate the personal goal of subordinates. Such supervisors perceive the movement of staff or colleagues as a movement to greener pastures.
Remain at most until approval
According to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, all staff must remain at post until their transfer is approved.
Any staff who moves to a new post without an approved transfer letter is considered to have vacated the post.
